Gymkhana Fun!

Today was our inaugural Gymkhana at Ingliston Equestrian Centre. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by P2-7 children and around 70 parents and relatives. We had great fun, lovely food and an all round fantastic day. Huge thanks to all parent for coming and to Josie, Mhairi and the staff at Ingliston for making today such a success.
Also special congratulations to Ardgowan house team who won the trophy by a very narrow margin from the excellent teams of Lyle and Rankin. Well done all!

Collecting Walk to School Data

Our 'Walk to School' committee - Alex, Olivia, Toby and Aimee were round classes today, as they will be every day this week, collecting data on the success of our Walk to School week. It was a bit wet today so maybe not the best day to start but hopefully we will be encouraging lots of walking this week!

Right-angled Triangles

Today we were looking at how to calculate the area of a right angled triangle. P6 demonstrated this using a ten pound note! It was not a prize for the best worker though!

Pupil of the Week

Congratulations to Cayman who is Pupil of the Week for P6/7 for this week. Cayman has been working very hard and truly deserves this award.

Gymkhana

As the gymkhana is our sports day for this year, all children should wear a t-shirt the same colour as their house.

Ardgowan is red Lyle is blue and Rankin is green.

The t-shirt should be worn with trip uniform. May I remind you that every child needs to bring in £3 for the lunch and money can be handed in from now on.
Children will only need a play piece on Wednesday. Thanks.

Walk to School Week!

This week Cedars School is joining with all the other primary schools across Inverclyde to participate in Walk to School Week.

The initiative has been running for the past few years and encourages children to walk to school. It is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and demonstrating how dependent we can often be on our cars when in fact, walking would be just as easy, as healthier.
Obviously, in Cedars, we have pupils traveling in to school from as far away as Largs and Kilmacolm, where it would be impossible for them to walk. In these cases we would encourage you to still participate in the weeks activities through something the organisers call 'Park and Stride' where children are dropped a safe walking distance from the school and walk the rest.

We will be keeping statistics of the number of pupils who walk during this week and submitting them along with all other Inverclyde schools. The winning school receives a trophy called the 'Golden Shoe'.

We really appreciate the support of our parents and families in this venture.

Gymkhana

We are really looking forward to the gymkhana next Wednesday. Children should wear trip uniform. Every child needs to bring in £3 for lunch as it is being provided. Money can be brought in from now on. Thanks to those of you who have paid already.

This term, for trips, P4-7 are going on some very healthy walks around the local area. This coincides with 'Walk to School Week' and also fits in with our curricular focus on Health and Wellbeing.
These walks will take place each Thursday. This week, tomorrow we are walking the esplanade, weather permitting!
Any walks that require special clothing will be intimated beforehand to enable children to come prepared. We will post a list of routes on the blog in the next week or two.

Location:Healthy Walks

There are a number of occasions this term where we will not be in school over lunch time. These are mainly on days when we are involved in play rehearsals at Greenock Town Hall. On these days, children will still be able to buy packed lunches from school in the morning from Mrs Parkinson and take them to the Town Hall for practising.

Next Wednesday we are at Ingliston Equestrian Centre for our sports day Gymkhana. On this day ALL children must bring £3 for their lunch.

We are looking forward to many of these exciting events over the course of the term!

Magnificent Mashups!

This afternoon we were creating some marvellous, magnificent Mashups using a whole host of different apps. First we pair shared ideas of different shapes in real life, chose a shape and created these wonderful 'mashup' images using loads of different apps.
Great learning in maths and IT. Enjoyed by all!

Arrival of The Wardrobe

Today we were at the Town Hall for the first time to rehearse the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We also took delivery of The Wardrobe which is huge and looks amazing!
The wardrobe was built by Scott's dad Mr Hallam and all at Key Enterprises. What a job they have done!!

School Bank

Our very successful School Bank opens its 'doors' again next Thursday. It has been a tremendously successful enterprise this year and P7 are very proud of the way that the school have taken to the bank and used it to save. We are very keen to encourage a culture of saving and financial sense within the school and the bank has been a great exercise in financial education.
We look forward to welcoming Hannah's mum and Jamie's mum back to open the bank for the summer term
To remind you, the opening hours are every Thursday morning from 9am and the bank is open to parents and all children with an RBS account.

ASketch

Today in art we were, again, trialling traditional observational drawing techniques and lessons using digital media, i.e the iPad.
Mete did this sketch of Lyle, who was sitting opposite him, using an app called ASketch which he hadn't used before.
A good first attempt I think.

Tomorrow's Narnia Rehearsal

Tomorrow we are having our first Narnia rehearsal in the Town Hall! It will be the first time the children have had a chance to see and practice on the big stage! The children will go down in the afternoon and will be back to school for 3pm as usual! :)

Assembly Presentations

Today P6/7 took assembly. We gave presentations about our Ideal Homes. Olivia, Jack and Mete all gave their presentations to all of P1-7. They did very well and confidently answered questions from the children on their designs.
