Trips This Term

For our trips this term P6/7 are going to Ingliston Equestrian Centre to go horse riding. This will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. This will also form part of our PE although it would be good if the children could still wear trip uniform on a Tuesday as we will also be doing additional PE lessons from time to time.

For horse riding children should wear trip uniform and bring a pair of wells or, if they have them, riding boots. Gloves would also be a good idea as it is still cold, even inside the Ingliston riding academy.

Thanks

A.Jewell

Awesome iPad Band!

As you may remember we have formed a small but elite iPad band who will accompany the other instruments for our primary Christmas play on Friday. In the band are Robert, Ruaraidh and Alex from P6/7 and Cameron from P5. The time we have had to rehearse has been severely limited due to the weather recently but things are coming along well and we are looking forward to our debut on Friday. The instruments we will be playing include bells, triangles, glockenspiel, vibraphone, drums and glissando chimes.
Here is a sneak preview video of a rehearsal for the song 'Follow the Star'.

Play Rehearsals

Today we began our penultimate week of school before the Christmas holidays. As we've missed so much time with full classes due to the snow we are taking the opportunity of having all the children back to rehearse our play. It is rather daunting as we perform in the school this Friday night and the following Monday.
Today, with some trepidation, we began rehearsals. The children were all excellent and the play rehearsal today went very well. We are trying out the sound system and lights as we go and they seemed to go well today too.
Hopefully it will be alright on the night!

Work While the Snow Falls

Yesterday we worked while the weather outside was below freezing all day. Every other school in Inverclyde was closed for the second day in a row but in Cedars, the valiant few children who made it to school learned about focal points and depth of field in art activities on our ipads and also made decorations out o clay with Mr Atkinson.
Today we have a lot more pupils again as the temperature has risen and the roads are much clearer.

Percentages and the Best Deal!

Everyone loves a bargain, especially near Christmas. Today we've been using a great app called Moxier Collage to present data on research into what shops are offering the best deals this winter.
Here are Olivia's results.

Percentages

In maths today we are looking at percentages. We've been working at moving from vulgar fractions to decimals and then to percentages.
We used our iPads to research toys and games from Toys R Us, Amazon and Argos and the percentage reductions that they offered.

Another Snowy Day!

For the second day running the weather has played havoc with our school timetable. Today many children were still unable to make it to school and we took this opportunity to introduce those who did make it to some new apps on the ipad and make Christmas decorations as well as doing some money maths via a game of monopoly! Hopefully we will be back to normal soon!

A Quiet Day

Over the weekend Inverclyde has been battered by wintry weather that has brought snow and ice to many people. This meant that in P6/7 today there were 6 people! Consequently there will be no homework tonight.
Hopefully things will return to normal soon!

Turning Back Time

Today we were so lucky to be able to travel to Paisley to visit a special shop from the 1930s. We took P6/7 and S1/2. The shop was set up to accompany the BBC series 'Turn Back Time'. We looked at all the old products and discussed what a shopkeepers life would have been like in the years before the second world war.

A Grand Day Out!

Today P6/7 are enjoying a trip connected with our look at the Victorians. The workshop is called Victorian Grand Days Out and looks at the time Queen Victoria herself visited the site of the kelvingrove art gallery for the great exhibition of 1888.

We went into the gallery to look at all sorts of Victorian artefacts. We went in dressed in full period dress. Courtney had the privilege of being dressed as Victoria herself.

The rest of us also got to dress up as maids, ladies and gentlemen. We strolled through the gallery in all our finery!

More 100 Word Stories

Here's one from Aimee:

The Cliffhanger

I sat tense and sick, watching the round, jagged spike of metal thrusting up angrily into the deep blue sky.

I looked closely. Far away, at the top, I saw people strapped tightly to its smooth face.

They hung there, faces twisted with terror.

Suddenly, with one great blast they plunged, down and down, so fast my eyes couldn't keep up then stopped abruptly before shooting back up like a screaming rocket.

Down again.

And up.

And down. They crawled off elated and sick.

I watched them stagger off the ride and it was my turn to join the queue.
